Welcome to The Peterborough Arts Umbrella!
The Peterborough Arts Umbrella (PAU) is a cultural animator and an open resource for the Peterborough area arts community. Our facility at 378 Aylmer Street signifies an exciting new era for the PAU and local artists.
Since 1995 the PAU has been a facility-based organization providing visibility for the arts in our community as well as providing a supportive environment where artists in all disciplines and all stages of professional development in their careers meet, collaborate, learn, discuss, produce and disseminate art.
The PAU is the only organization in the region that delivers both programs and services across all disciplines.
Structure
The PAU is membership -based and governed by a volunteer board of directors who report to our membership. The PAU serves artists in Peterborough and the Kawarthas. The PAU encourages discipline-specific collaboration with our membership and community through the PAU's Working Groups.
Each Working Group is lead by at least one PAU board director and co-directs artistic policy in concert with PAU staff. Over the years this unique artistic structure has enabled the PAU to remain relevant to the needs of artists in the community and in our region.
Our New Facilities
As part of the ongoing efforts to share resources and reduce costs the new 4,500 square foot PAU facility at 378 Aylmer Street is shared with our partners Arbor Theatre and Backlash Projects. This facility includes a 900 square foot Gallery and offices, a Media Centre with separate dedicated audio and video rooms, a Rehearsal Facility for theatre, workshops, rehearsals, video and photo shooting.
The Media Centre and Rehearsal Facilities are accessible to members 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There is also a new member's common area with a resource library, sitting room, a kitchenette, member access computer station and a storage area. This new shared facility will once again provide a place for artists to meet, network, share and create.
