Peterborough Arts Umbrella News and Events – Winter 2008

Hello PAU Members! 2008 is off to a great start with lots of exciting events at the PAU and in the arts community in general. Also, we’d like to announce a few changes at the PAU!

1. We welcome two new staff members at the PAU! Our new Event and Web Media Coordinator is April Steele and our new Publication Coordinator is Malissa Farnham.

2. There have been some adjustments in our e-mail addresses. Please refer to the following changes: For general inquiries: info@pauart.com For all event listings and press releases: media@pauart.com For all submissions to the PAUL newsletter: paul@pauart.com

3. Please note that we will still be continuing our printing service via e-mail. Please e-mail graphic files in jpeg format to info@pauart.com and call the office at (705) 749-3220 to arrange printing services and a pick up time.

4. Call for Events – please submit any upcoming events to media@pauart.com.

5. Call for Submissions: Member Show – PAU members are invited to submit up to 3 pieces of artwork to the jury for the March Members’ Show (opening March 7). Artwork must be recent (created in the last year) and ready to hang. Please drop off your submissions and complete a Gallery Submission form on Thursday, February 28, Friday February 29, Monday March 3, or Tuesday March 4 during office hours (10am – 5pm). 6. Call for Submissions: PAUL Newsletter – PAU members are invited to submit articles, events, photographs and illustrations to paul@pauart.com. Also, if you have any feedback about our publications, we'd love to hear from you!

Winter 2008 New and Events:

January 11 to February 1 – Tony Cooper: Recent Works, PAU Gallery. Come and and see the exhibition before it closes on the 1st!

February 2 – Food Justice: The 27th Annual One World Dinner, 5:30 (doors open) 6:00 (dinner). St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church Hall. Tickets at the door, suggested $5/person or $10/family. Please bring: a vegetarian contribution (no meat, fish or poultry) to feed 4 – 6 people (no desserts please), a dish pack (cutlery, plate, cup, serving spoon), and a list of ingredients in your dish. February 6 – Twilight Hotel with Dave and Kelly, 9:30pm, Gordon Best, $10

February 9 – Love Letters to Dinosaurs, PAU Gallery. Curated by Jessica Rowland, Love Letters to a Dinosaur is a Valentine themed art exhibition of new works by artists Scott Andrew Elliott (recently back from completing his MFA in Finland), Virpi Velin, Wendy Trusler, Leigh Macdonald, Shannon Taylor, Carly Moran, John Climenhage, Sacha Archer, Jessica Rowland, Micky Renders, Peter Barron and a shiny new stop animation by Leigh Kotsilidis. Opening reception 2pm – 6pm.

February 9 – Focus Fair: Hearts and Crafts Show, 1pm to 6pm, PAU. If you are an artisan interested in vending at the Focus Fair, please contact focusfair@gmail.com. Vending fees are $15 for PAU members.

February 15 – Deadline for submissions for the Millbrook International 3 Minute Film Festival. For more information and to download an entry form, go to www.millbrookfilmfestival.com.

February 28 & 29 - Submissions accepted for PAU Members' Show. 10am - 5pm, PAU.

March 1 – Millbrook International 3 Minute Film Festival, King Street Center for the Arts, Millbrook.

March 1 - The Staveley Project Album Release / CoNartist: Cut and Paste Skies, the Spill (414 George Street), 7pm.

March 3 & 4 - Submissions accepted for PAU Members' Show. 10am - 5pm, PAU.

March 7 – Member’s Show, PAU Gallery. Opening reception 7pm - 9pm.
