PAU Gallery - CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

The Peterborough Arts Umbrella is currently accepting exhibition proposals for our 2009/2010 gallery programming. All Gallery members in good standing are eligible to submit proposals for solo, group or curated exhibitions that will take place from June 2009 through 2010.

How to Apply: Please read our Gallery Guidelines and Conditions of Exhibiting and Gallery Application forms (downloadable at www.pauart.com/gallery, or available at the PAU) thoroughly, and refer to the application form for complete instructions. All submissions are juried by the visual arts workgroup, and successful applicants will be notified during the first week of March.

Deadline for Submissions: Submissions for this programming period must be received by 5pm on Monday, February 23. However, submissions are accepted year round for later programming.

Reminder: Gallery members are also eligible to submit works to our March members' exhibition. A completed application is not required. Members may submit up to three pieces of artwork completed within the last year and under three feet in any direction. Submitted artwork must have an attached information label that includes the artist's name, title, medium, price and artist's phone number. Artworks must be submitted to the PAU on February 27, March 2 and March 3 during regular business hours (10am to 5pm). The March members' exhibition will be on display from March 6 to 27, with an opening receptionon March 6 from 7pm to 9pm.

About the Gallery: The PAU's 400 square foot public gallery hosts monthly exhibitions of visual art by gallery members. Our unique gallery features over seventy feet of hanging space and a portable wall, as well as a gallery-quality lighting system. The PAU gallery provides a highly visible focus for public outreach, and ensures that visual artists are seen by the larger community. The gallery promotes and develops artists working at diverse stages in their careers and is open to all artists, at all levels of development. The PAU has an established exhibiting artists agreement and charges a 15% commission on top of all gallery sales. Calls for proposals for curated exhibitions are disseminated through the PAU and are juried by the visual arts workgroup.

Our Mandate:

  • - To provide exhibition space for artists primarily of Peterborough and the surrounding regions, and to strive to represent the diversity that exists within those communities, including a commitment to presenting works of Aboriginal artists.
  • - To encourage, support and assist in the development of local art and artists, as well as proadening awareness of contemporary artistic styles and movements through the occasional presentation of innovative, non-regional artists.
  • - To expose the community to, and increase audience awareness of art and artists, and to provide a venue for interaction between the public and the arts community through innovative, equitable and accessable gallery exhibitions and programming.
  • - To provide a fair, constructive and informative selection process for curated exhibitions, while also maintaining open-access exhibitions for the entire membership.
  • - To provide educational programming in the form of artist and curator talks, student tours, secondary school art exhibitions and projects, and public symposia.
